At the moment I’m deciding on the best 8 inch subwoofer for my car and I have a wish-list – it’s difficult to choose a favorite because they’re all superb pieces of audio equipment, however, I think I’ve made my decision! If you’re also looking to improve the sound of your in-car or at-home audio system, you’ll find this article invaluable; it lists the very best 8 inch subwoofers you can buy.
Just because they’re smaller than the other subwoofers on the marketplace doesn’t mean they are any less powerful. Each of the following subwoofers delivers an incredible audio experience, looks awesome with sleek, modern design details and each is a state of the art piece of kit. I am going to purchase my overall favorite from Amazon.com because I find it’s usually the best place to buy audio equipment and prices are infinitely better than visiting a store.
1. Pyle PLPW8D 800 Watt 8 Inch Subwoofer
This particular subwoofer is ideal for a vehicle because of its 8” size and it’s packed with a host of excellent benefits plus it looks amazing, it’s definitely something to be proud of and will enhance your in-car audio experience no end.
If you want to hear the depth of base without any distortion the Pyle PLPW8D delivers and it’s not only suitable for your car, it’s also great for home use and you can place it in any type of enclosure whether vented, outside in the open air or sealed.
This Pyle subwoofer is the ultimate in powerful bass – I’ve seen my friends’ cars literally shake with terrific energy, it has huge capacity! As a couple of words of advice, buy a regular grill with clamps to protect it and keep it to a medium volume to avoid it burning out. For more of its features see the list here:
- Ridiculously affordable price!
- Black steel basket complete with ultra-strong 40 oz magnet
- Paper cone with 400 watts RMS/800 watts maximum power
- Foam surround to protect
- 1.5” 4 layer voice coil
- Spring-loaded push down speaker terminals
- Dual 4Ohm impedance
2. Kicker 10C84 (10C8-4) 8 Inch Subwoofer
This one is more expensive and you do get better performance but it is more than double the price of the Pyle. However, it looks super-cool, designed to resemble a car’s wheel and it’s compact in the 8” size yet still gives amazing boom and loud base. It’s definitely an incredible audio experience for any car or even at home. The Kicker shouldn’t ever over heat because it has a vented pole piece to dissipate heat and it also has a high temperature coil wire.
Weighing 7lb it’s not the lightest piece but if you’re looking for a mid-price 8 inch subwoofer this should suit all your requirements. Note, this is a passive speaker so it is not amplified and you might want to buy a grill cover because it doesn’t come with one. Be patient with installing, I hear the instructions are not the easiest to follow but it performs well and doesn’t need to be cranked up to full volume to get that BOOM you’re looking for! For more features read my checklist:
- Good value mid-range 8 inch subwoofer
- Steel basket with coil-cooling perimeter to protect subwoofer from overheating
- Double Spiralead tinsel leads
- Strong ribbed surround
- Spring-loaded terminals
3. Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 8 Inch Subwoofer
I have to hand it to Pioneer – they really are top of my list for high performance audio and they should know what they’re doing because they are one of the highest rated brands when it comes to in-car audio experience.
I’ve bought many car stereos over the years made by Pioneer and they always lasted well, delivering good quality sound plus I find they are always at the forefront of new technology so when I heard about their 8 inch subwoofer I had to investigate further.
This one is another mid-range price product and looks extremely striking in a leading edge design. It’s also loud, powerful and doesn’t miss a beat. You get to hear those low tones perfectly clear without distortion and you should never need to turn it up to the max. Your car will shudder appropriately even at a mid-volume.
Note you do need an amp to run this and you might need to slightly modify it to fit into some vehicle’s stock boxes, make sure you screw it tightly as when it’s in use if it’s not completely fixed down you might get a buzz. There are lots of exciting features too with this product:
- Great frequency response of 20-200HZ
- Dual 2Ohm voice coil
- 600 watts maximum power
So out of the three I think I’m opting for the Pioneer but only because I’ve bought their audio equipment before. However, I could be tempted to buy 2 of the Pyles because they are so cheap I’d still get change out of my wallet!
